The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office has received a handheld sonar device.

The office’s Underwater Search and Recovery Commander and Sergeant accepted the donation from the Monterey County Board of Supervisors.

They were purchased by Clinica de Salud, a clinic in Monterey County.

Sheriff’s office officials say the device uses artificial intelligence to search for people in the water and will increase the effectiveness and efficiency of water emergency responses.
