UPDATE: This program ended on June 30, 2020, and overnight parking is no longer allowed at the Los Osos Library.

San Luis Obispo County is starting a program to help homeless individuals and families have access to safe, clean parking lots to park their cars and camp overnight.

The program began Thursday night in the Los Osos Library parking lot.

The lot will be used for the program every night until further notice.

Open hours for vehicle camping start at 7 p.m. and end at 7 a.m.

The Los Osos Library parking lot is the first site being tested for the program. Other locations are expected to be available soon.

All sites will be equipped with restrooms. Some will have showers.

Personnel will be on-site throughout the night to ensure a safe environment for campers.

Participants of the program are required to agree to site rules, including respectful behavior and no drug or alcohol use.
