The Superior Court of California of San Luis Obispo County says it will resume criminal jury trials this week, along with expanding the number of court rooms.
The court issued an order suspending all jury trials for 60 days in mid-March due to the coronavirus pandemic. Three court rooms remained open, where certain trials were allowed to take place with certain safety measures in place.
Jurors will receive summons for court beginning this week.
The court says they will be implementing safety precautions such as recommending face coverings, smaller panels of jurors, and maintaining physical distancing.
"We need to make sure that we balance the right to a fair trial with the right that we all have and safeguarding of our health that everyone is concerned about," said san Luis Obispo County District Attorney Dan Dow.
Dow says any new concerns can be expressed to the judge and it will be examined on a case-by-case basis.
