San Luis Obispo City leaders addressed an appeal Tuesday night from a local taqueria to have their closing time extended.

City council members approved the later closure with a 4-1 vote.

Taqueria Santa Cruz, located on Monterey Street, is now allowed to stay open until 9:30 p.m.

Earlier this year, the planning commission ordered the restaurant to close at 9 p.m.after residents in nearby apartments filed noise complaints with the city.

Although a later closure was approved, the owners are still seeking a later time due to a loss in revenue.

"I'm not happy," says Taqueria Santa Cruz owner Jose Hernandez, "but think about it, I'm losing a million dollars in gross sales a year since they reduced my hours of operation."

Hernandez says he will continue to ask for an extension on the restaurants closing time.

Before the complaints, Taqueria Santa Cruz was open until 11 p.m.
