The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office has launched a new email service to help people communicate with those behind bars.

The sheriff’s office says benefits of the service include it being free, fast and usable while shelter-at-home orders are in place.

The address is sh-inmatemail@co.slo.ca.us. The email’s subject line needs to contain the inmate’s last name, first name and inmate ID.

Money orders for inmate services are still required to be sent through the U.S. Postal Service.
