Pioneer Valley High School in Santa Maria held a drive-thru pick-up for seniors to get their graduation materials.

Available items included caps and gowns, tassels, $40 class ring coupons, and celebratory lawn signs.

Student pick-up was arranged by last name and volunteers placed graduation materials in the backseat or trunk of the vehicles.

Seniors are finishing out their last year of high school while sheltering at home and learning remotely.

"It has been really stressful with the online classes because I'm the kind of student that needs to be interactive with the teachers but I'm trying my best to get my work done," said Heidi Arvizu, Pioneer Valley High School senior.

"Schools across the United States, we are hoping for a real graduation but I think we're planning a virtual graduation just in case at this point though we really don't know," said Shanda Herrera, Pioneer Valley High School Principal. "I think we all have to wait and follow the governor and the advice of our country right now."

About 500 caps and gowns were distributed on Tuesday.

Righetti High School has planned a similar drive-thru event for May 8.
