UPDATE: Suspect in custody following shooting in Santa Maria

UPDATE (12:51 p.m.) - The Santa Maria Police Department says Jose Gilbert Sendejas, 30, has been arrested on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm in connection to the shooting in the 1400 block of N. Elm on Friday morning.

Police say the shooting does not appear to be gang-related and they are continuing to investigate a motive.

UPDATE (9:45 a.m.) - Santa Maria police say one person has been taken into custody on unrelated charges following the shooting. Police are still investigating his possible involvement. While multiple people were initially detained, police say not all were arrested.

A woman who lives at the home struck by gunfire tells KSBY News she had taken her son to school when she received the call from police telling her about the shooting. Other family members of hers were home at the time.

She says she no longer feels safe and is considering selling her home.

UPDATE (9:20 a.m.) - Santa Maria police say multiple suspects have been detained in connection with a shooting Friday morning in Santa Maria.

Police on scene tell KSBY News one home was struck by gunfire. No one was hurt and there's no known motive.

The shooting was reported around 8:20 a.m. on the 1400 block of N. Elm Street.

Traffic is being restricted in the area for the time being.

ORIGINAL STORY (9 a.m.): Police were responding to reports of shots fired in a Santa Maria neighborhood Friday morning.

Police said on Twitter shortly before 9 a.m. that the area of the 1400 block of N. Elm was secure and safe.

The Santa Maria Fire Department was also requested to the scene.

No other information was immediately available.
