The Santa Barbara Police Department on Wednesday announced the death of one of its own.
Officer Gina Battaglia reportedly died from complications related to what police called an "on-duty illness."
"She exemplified extraordinary courage in fighting a long and difficult battle," police said in a statement.
Officer Battaglia had worked for the department for 14 years in several roles, including patrol officer, crime scene investigator, and public safety communication dispatch supervisor.
