A 51-year-old man has been identified as the driver killed after crashing into a treeoff Highway 154 Friday night.
Authorities say Rene Martinez-Carrasco of Santa Barbara was heading westbound on the highway, just east of the Lake Cachuma entrance shortly after 7 p.m. when, for unknown reasons, his car went off the road, rolled and hit a tree.
Martinez-Carrasco was pronounced dead at the scene
The crash remains under investigation but according to CHP, witnesses reported Martinez-Carrasco was attempting to pass a vehicle at a "high rate of speed" prior to the crash.
