A 72-year-old man was killed in a head-on crash Sunday night, California Highway Patrol said.
According to a preliminary investigation, CHP says a 26-year-old woman from Arroyo Grande, identified as Chelsea Stiles, was recklessly driving a GMC Yukon.
She allegedly rammed another car along SR-227, causing it to spin out, before crossing the center line into oncoming southbound traffic, CHP said. The Yukon and Honda SUV collided head-on near the Cold Canyon Landfill.
The Honda driver, identified as Terry Tilton, 72, of San Luis Obispo died on scene.
Stiles was arrested and taken to the hospital with what CHP described as major injuries.
Officers have not said what Stiles was arrested for and as of Monday morning, she was reportedly still in the hospital.
A 1.5-year-old girl in her vehicle was also hospitalized with minor injuries, according to CHP.
Investigators say drugs or alcohol are still being investigated as possible factors in the collision.
