A San Luis Obispo man is behind bars after an alleged attempted kidnapping and resisting arrest.

The San Luis Obispo Police Department says 28-year-old David Castellon attempted to grab an 8-year-old girl by the arm near Meadow Park at around 3:45 p.m. on Sunday. The girl's mother says the child was playing in the front yard of a friend's home.

Police say the girl was able to pull away from what she described as a "hard grip" from Castellon and ran safely home to her parents who called SLOPD.

Castellon was spotted in the area by a SLOPD officer who was searching the area. Authorities say that's when Castellon ran and was apprehended after a short foot pursuit.

Investigators interviewed Castellon and say they obtained statements linking him to the alleged crime.

He has been booked in the San Luis Obispo County Jail with bail set at $50,000. He was no longer in custody as of Monday afternoon.
