San Luis Obispo celebrates Tree City USA recognition at annual Arbor Day event

The San Luis Obispo Urban Forest Division held its annual Arbor Day Celebration at Islay Hill Park Saturday morning.

The Arbor Day Foundation has recognized the city of San Luis Obispo as a Tree City USA for the 36th consecutive year. A member of the California Department of Forestry presented the award to the city during the annual celebration.

The event also included an awards ceremony for the annual Arbor Day Art Contest for local elementary school students.

Children and volunteers from organizations like ECOSLO also planted trees as part of the celebration.
