Bookworms and teachers shopped for new literature at the Grover Beach Community Library book sale.
The library provided genres ranging from cookbooks, self-help books and fiction novels.
There was also a power hour from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. for nonprofits and teachers to shop at the book sale free of charge.
Alejandra Mahoney, a Santa Maria resident, brought eight cases of children's books to distribute to children who are now staying at home due to coronavirus concerns.
"I just think that books are great for kids and to hold a book in your hand and be able to read it and have your parents read it to you is a wonderful way to spend your time," said Mahoney. "If they're going to be at home, I hope they're going to be a little happier with their books."
To pick up these free books, children and families can go to any of the Peoples' Self-Help Housing learning centers in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties.
