Firefighters have fully contained a brush fire that broke out near El Capitan Canyon last week, forcing the closure of Highway 101 for a short time and evacuating campers from nearby campgrounds.

The Real Fire broke out Thursday afternoon west of El Capitan near Calle Real and Highway 101.

By Friday morning, firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading beyond the 420 acres it had already burned.

The Santa Barbara County Fire Department said burn scars from other recent fires helped keep the flames in check.

No word on the cause.
