A local family is hosting a raffle that will benefit the NICU at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo.

Jamie Tejeda and her husband had their baby boy last year but he had to be transferred to the NICU center for a week.

After receiving care, Jamie and her husband said they wanted to give back to the medical center, so they brainstormed ideas with the staff and decided to host a raffle that would fund a library for the NICU.

Last year, they raised $5,000, so they decided to host another raffle.

Jamie says its difficult to be separated from your baby and reading can be a good way to connect and strengthen your baby's brain development.

"We have had a lot of stories come back to us of people that have gone through the NICU that have received a book and their comfort and how they felt the book was just one of the most touching things they've experienced and how it really helped them during a tough time," Tejeda said.

She says she hopes Oliver's Library continues to grow through generous donations.

Raffle tickets are $1 each.

The raffle is open until January 6, and winners will be announced on January 12.

They have more than $5,000 in prizes this year.

The largest donation is guaranteed a prize.

Raffle tickets are available at Pardon My French Bakery in Grover Beach. They can also be purchased through Pay Pal (oliverslibrary@gmail.com) or Venmo (@oliverslibrary).
