Investigators say fallen power lines sparked a vegetation fire near Gaviota earlier this year.

The Hollister Fire broke out May 7 around 2:13 a.m. along Hollister Ranch Road north of Gaviota and quickly burned 156 acres.

The Santa Barbara County Fire Department says a Southern California Edison utility pole fell in windy conditions and “an energized conductor, connected to the utility pole, arced to the ground and ignited surrounding vegetation causing the Hollister Fire.”

No injuries were reported and no structures were threatened.
