The City of Pismo Beach has canceled the annual 4th of July fireworks as a result of the pandemic, according to the Pismo Beach Chamber of Commerce.

In a Facebook post, the chamber said the decision was based on the county's reopening plan, which does not allow for large crowds until Phase 3 of the plan, which has not yet been implemented.

A city official confirmed the cancellation and said more information would be released on Friday.

The event typically attracts 80,000 to 100,000 people to the beach community each year.
