The annual 9/11 Day of Remembrance Ceremony at Fire Station 1 in San Luis Obispo was canceled this year because of the pandemic, but that didn't stop people from paying their respects to those who lost their lives 19 years ago.

More than 400 roses were stacked up and available for visitors to place on a metal beam from the World Trade Center, the centerpiece of the fire station's 9/11 memorial.

One person visiting from Massachusetts brought a picture of one of the pilots who crashed into the first World Trade Center.

"With today and everything that's going on in the world, if we can just find compassion and love just like when 9/11 happened. We didn't care about color, race, what sex, who we loved, and we just need to come together without separation cause we are all equal," said Jennifer Kearns, Massachusetts resident.

SLO City Fire Station 1 is located at 2160 Santa Barbara Ave. and people are invited to stop by the memorial at any time.
