Two Paso Robles schools were placed on lockdown Wednesday while officers took a wanted man into custody.
Police say officers stopped Manuel Antonio Ordunez Martinez, 39, for a registration violation, but Martinez refused to identify himself and would not roll down his window.
Nearby Flamson Middle School and Georgia Brown Elementary School were placed on lockdown while officers negotiated with Martinez.
Police say officers spent nearly an hour trying to persuade him to identify himself and exit the vehicle.
The officers reportedly parked their patrol vehicles directly in front of and behind the car to prevent Martinez from fleeing.
When he put the vehicle in reverse, police say officers broke the driver's side window to stop the car and take Martinez into custody for resisting arrest.
Police say Martinez had three outstanding warrants for his arrest, including for felony kidnapping out of Southern California.
