UPDATE (1:25 p.m.) - A CHP officer confirms the driver of a stolen vehicle was arrested following a pursuit Friday afternoon.

The pursuit started in Pismo Beach after officers spotted a black Ford pickup that had been reported stolen.

It ended off a dirt road in the Los Padres National Forest.

CHP says the driver led officers southbound on Highway 101 to Highway 166 where the vehicle headed east. The driver turned right near Rock Front Ranch onto Sierra Madre Rd., a rugged dirt road in the forest.

Officers say the driver eventually crashed the truck off the side of the road and tried to run away. Officers captured him during a foot chase.

At least one CHP vehicle needed to be towed out of the area because of the rough road.
