Northern SLO County motorcyclists put on their poker faces to raise money for veterans

People in northern San Luis Obispo County put on their poker faces to raise money for veterans.

The American Legion Riders of Paso Robles held a two hour poker run through north San Luis Obispo County Sunday.

A poker run is an event where participants, riding motorcycles or other forms of transportation, stop by five checkpoints and draw a playing card at each one. The goal is to have the best poker hand at the end of the run.

Awards are given out to the best and worst poker hand.

The event proceeds go towards supporting veterans in the community.

"We'll take care of homeless veterans, echo homeless shelter, wounded warrior project, amp surf," said Nancy Weatherman, event organizer. "We have quite a few school kids with our scholarships. That's a part of our fundraising."

Event organizers also set up a live band, barbecue and raffle drawing for riders up and down the Central Coast.
