The gray whale calf that was stranded in Port San Luis Harbor on Friday was nowhere to be found on Saturday.
Harbor Patrol tells KSBY the last time it was spotted was around 7 a.m. Saturday, swimming in the water beyond the moored boats.
The Marine Mammal Center confirmed Saturday afternoon that it had not been seen for several hours.
Friday night, the young whale was seen washed up along the rocks, and marine mammal officials expected they'd have to perform a necropsy on the animal today.

It's unknown where the whale is now, but The Marine Mammal Center says it's on standby to respond if the whale is spotted again.
Members of the public can call 415-289-SEAL to report sightings of the whale or any other marine mammal that appears to be in distress.
