The Kristin Smart investigation has grown much bigger than San Luis Obispo County.
The case now garnering nationwide coverage and especially here in California.
The "Your Own Backyard" podcast and media attention has certainly helped bring the case back to light.
However, a local defense attorney says this could pose challenges to the case.
"The idea is are you going to get a jury pool here locally that doesn't know about the case and doesn't have any preconceived notions or ideas or information. Are you going to be more beneficial here or somewhere else," said Scott Taylor, defense attorney.
Taylor says a defense attorney representing a suspect in this case, could file for a motion, if they believe their client wouldn't be getting a fair trial.
"You can file a motion to change venue. A motion to change venue essentially you keep the same prosecutor, you keep local judges, but you tap a different pool of jurors," said Taylor.
The coverage, podcast and interest in the nearly 24 year old case is a positive for groups such as Warriors for Kristin.
"It keeps Kristin's name out there because she's not here to speak for herself, so we're here to help her do that and giving her that platform for her story to be out there is incredibly vital," said Sandee Hunt-Burns, Warriors for Kristin activist.
On social media the hashtag #TickTock is becoming extremely popular, especially on the Find Kristin Smart Facebook page.
Meaning the time is coming and the time is almost up, according to the page.
Hunt-Burns says with the uptick in attention on the case, it's even more important now to be aware of what you're posting online and be cautious on any speculation you see on the investigation.
