Murder charges have been filed against the man the California Highway Patrol says caused a crash on Highway 154 last month that killed a mother and her two young children.

The Santa Barbara County District Attorney's Office announced the charges against John Roderick Dungan, 28, of Santa Barbara on Wednesday.

The crash happened the afternoon of Oct. 25 on Highway 154 east of the Cold Spring Bridge when CHP says Dungan crashed into a vehicle driven by Rebecca Vanessa Goss Bley, 34, and her two children, identified as Lucienne Bley Gleason, 2, and Desmond Bley Gleason, 4 months.

The three were all pronounced dead at the scene.

Dungan was hospitalized with what were described as critical injuries.

Jail logs show he was arrested Tuesday and remains in Santa Barbara County Jail with bail set at $2 million.

CHP says one of its captains is meeting with Bley's husband Thursday to update him on the case involving the "horrific incident."

A press conference is planned for Thursday afternoon.

Dungan is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges Friday.
