California Highway Patrol officers are investigating what led to a crash involving a motorcyclist and a horse trailer in the Santa Ynez Valley Sunday afternoon.

Santa Barbara County Fire Department spokesman Mike Eliason shared a photo on Twitter of first responders loading the motorcyclist into a CalStar helicopter.

At about 12:30 p.m. Sunday, officials say a man in his 20's driving a motorcycle on N. Refugio Rd., near Highway 154, collided with a horse trailer that was being towed.

The crash happened on the 1900 block of N. Refugio Rd., not far from the Ponzo Equine Center.

The man suffered critical injuries, fire officials say. A helicopter flown the motorcyclist to a hospital for treatment.
