Morro Bay’s iconic Bay Theatre is up for sale.
The property at 464 Morro Bay Boulevard is listed at $1.5 million and has been on the market since December, according to a listing on FarrellSmyth.com.
It includes an office, one-bedroom apartment, and a garage and "is in fabulous shape and ready for many uses," the listing states.
Under the purple COVID-19 tier, which San Luis Obispo County has been in since mid-November, movie theatres cannot operate.
A notice on the Bay Theatre’s website says the theatre is closed until further notice and will re-open when it is safe to do so.
“The Bay Theatre has been family owned and operated since 1975,” according to its website. “The building was constructed in the early 1940's as a single screen motion picture theatre. The Jannopoulos family has maintained the historical integrity and charm of the building while pursuing their efforts to maintain and improve the physical and technical aspects of this landmark.”
The owner last week declined KSBY's request for comment.
