Two people were arrested Tuesday at Motel 6 in Morro Bay after police responded to reports of a man being seen with a rifle.
The call came in at around 12:24 p.m. regarding a report of a male in a silver Mercedes seen in the parking lot with a rifle in his possession.
When officers arrived they say they found the vehicle along with Steven Josef Banfi and Danielle Raquel Quijada both from San Francisco inside.
Police say Banfi was on probation and this allowed them to search the vehicle. Officers say they located brass knuckles, a replica rifle, multiple credit cards with names not belonging to either of them, numerous associated receipts, and associated stolen property along with cash totaling $2,950. Police say based on the receipts recovered, $11,888.96 in losses was determined.
Banfi and Quijada were arrested and booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail for multiple felony identify theft and felony credit card related offenses. They were released within 24 hours because of the San Luis Obispo County Superior Court updated Emergency Bail Schedule presumption of zero dollars bail.
