Morro Bay Police are investigating an early morning assault.
Investigators say a man called police shortly before 2 a.m. on Thursday to report that three people in a dark-colored SUV drove him to the dirt parking lot along Highway 1 south of Torro Creek Rd. and struck him in the head several times before leaving him there and driving away.
The victim reportedly told police he walked back into Morro Bay, attempting to get help by knocking on doors.
He was located in the 2400 block of Main St. and taken to the hospital for treatment of head and facial injuries.
The parking lot on Highway 1, which is used by the public to access the dog beach, was blocked off until about 10 a.m. while police processed the crime scene.
No other information about the alleged attackers has been released and police say their investigation is ongoing.
