Starting Friday, the Montecito Fire Protection District will place temporary parking restrictions on the north side of the 100 block of Humphrey Road and Miramar Avenue on Fridays through Sundays.

Officials said areas near local beaches have seen increased traffic and more vehicles parked along the road, "significantly impairing" firefighters' access to emergencies and community members' ability to evacuate.

At the request of Montecito Fire, the Santa Barbara County Roads Commissioner agreed to temporarily limit parking to one side of the street on Miramar Avenue and Humphrey Road.

The regulation will be enforced by the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department through the issuance of parking citations, according to authorities.

"We sincerely appreciate the community’s assistance on this matter as your Fire Department strives to ensure reasonable access so that we can provide efficient and effective emergency response to all community members in their time of need," said fire officials in a news release.

Authorities did not specify when the parking regulation will no longer be in effect.
