An unarmed Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile is set to launch from Vandenberg Space Force Base this week.
The operational test launch is set for Wednesday between 12:51 a.m. and 6:51 a.m. from north Vandenberg.
Base officials say the purpose "program is to demonstrate the readiness of U.S. nuclear forces and provide confidence in the lethality and effectiveness of the nation's nuclear deterrent."
