A man was hospitalized after being swept off rocks in Morro Bay Monday.

The Morro Bay Harbor Patrol says they responded to the north jetty area on the south side of Morro Rock shortly after 9:35 a.m. after receiving reports of a man who had been walking on the rocks and was swept off.

He was reportedly unconscious when people in the area first contacted him, but the Harbor Patrol says they assisted the man to shore and he was conscious when getting into the ambulance.

A high surf warning is in effect for Central Coast beaches through 3 p.m. Monday as breaking waves are expected to range from 15-21 feet with local sets up to 23 feet.

The harbor department says people are advised to always keep their guard up when around the jetty, stay on dry rocks and never turn their backs to the waves.
