The Lucia Mar Unified School District announced in a press release the Board of Education decided to require distance learning for the start of the 2020-2021 school year.

The release said they reviewed over 1,500 comments submitted to the Board and District Administrative Team when making this decision.

This means it is no longer necessary for students to move to Pacific View Academy for distance learning and can participate from home.

Students should expect more rigorous, full-day teaching with both synchronous and asynchronous teaching — similar to a regular school day, according to the release.

The District says they are working with staff and preparing to provide students with Chromebooks if necessary. They are also looking into options for those without WiFi access.

"Please understand that the decision making process was heart wrenching, and the Board of Education and district management recognize the challenges that lie ahead; we promise we will continue to do all we can to support our families, our students, and our staff as we continue to navigate these unprecedented times," according to the press release.

The District says parents should pay attention to emails for further updates.
