Lompoc police arrest suspect in killing of Army soldier

The Lompoc Police Department announced Thursday officers have arrested one of two suspects wanted for the murder of Marlon Brumfield.

Brumfield was shot and killed in the early morning hours of September 8 near the intersection of Ocean Avenue and A Street.

The Army Specialist (E-4) was home visiting his family while on a two-week leave from Germany, where he was stationed.

Police say Thursday morning, Francisco GutierrezOrtega turned himself in at the Santa Maria Police Department. The previous day, officers served an arrest warrant at his home in Santa Maria. Police say GutierrezOrtega was not home at the time but officers talked to his family.

GutierrezOrtega was arrested on suspicion of murder and conspiracy and is reportedly now in custody at the Lompoc City Jail and is being held without bail.

Police say they've identified a second suspect in the case - Walter Alexander Morales Jr., 25.

He is not currently in custody and police are asking anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact the Lompoc Police Department at (805) 736-2341.

Morales is described as 5'4" tall and 140 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He reportedly has several tattoos described below:

Neck - "Griselda"
Left Arm - "VLP"
Right Arm - "Elisa" and a rocking L
Left Leg - LOM
Right Leg - POC
Back - "Morales"
Left Jaw/Neck - "805"
