Lompoc's mayor says Vandenberg Air Force Base is proposing a boardwalk at Surf Beach to help improve the area.
Mayor Janelle Osborne says the base is looking to build a boardwalk between Ocean Park and Surf Beach to provide the community with improved beach access.
Osborne says the boardwalk will improve ADA and emergency access to both locations.
"I think one of the things that is a potential win for Lompoc is to get access to the beach in a more community way like we've historically had," she said.
The California Coastal Commission is expected to make a decision in December.
