The Lompoc City Council voted unanimously to approve and finalize the city's Pedestrian and Bicycle Master Plan.

The plan is intended to improve avenues for pedestrians and cyclists by prioritizing safety and encouraging these modes of travel.

Improvements for cyclists are expected to be made along heavily traveled school routes with high pedestrian and vehicle volumes, higher than average accident rates and higher vehicle speeds.

The plan seeks to install sidewalk gap closures and crossing improvements in areas with heavy traffic. The goal is to boost pedestrian access to popular locations including schools, shopping centers, places of work, public facilities and parks.
