Lemos Feed & Pet Supply is accepting donations for the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office K-9 Unit.

According to a press release sent to KSBY, Lemos Feed & Pet Supply has a goal of raising $25,000 to add and train a replacement K-9, which will be assigned to Deputy Shane Moore, whose former K-9 officer, Chop, died in January 2020.

"Working with Chop was special," said Moore. "He loved working and loved being there for me and my partners."

Community members can donate at any of the 14 Lemos Feed & Pet Supply locations spanning from Carpinteria to Paso Robles. All donations are tax deductible, said the pet supply store in its press release.

The press release says the donations will also help fund specialized training, ballistic vests, veterinary bills and other equipment.

"Our family, friends, employees and their families live, work, play and shop here, so of course, we want this community to feel like a safe environment," said Mike Lemos, the owner of the pet supply store. "We're just doing what we can to help the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office keep the costs down while building the K-9 Unit up."

Chop did not survive an emergency surgery on an obstructed intestine, said the press release from Lemos Feed & Pet Supply.
