The first nonstop flight from San Luis Obispo to Las Vegas touched down at the airport Thursday.

The airport announced in June the addition of the Contour Airlines flight, which will make four weekly round-trips to the city known for gambling and world-class entertainment.

Many were at the airport Thursday for a ribbon-cutting event to celebrate the added flight, including Director of Airports Kevin Bumen, Visit SLO CAL President and CEO Chuck Davison and Contour Aviation CEO Matt Chaifetz.

“The new Contour service to Las Vegas is one more incredible nonstop destination we’ve been able to offer the Central Coast in 2019," Bumen said. "Our community has been asking for this route for a long time, and we are thrilled to be able to deliver. The convenient flight schedule and the quality customer service offered by Contour Airlines will make traveling to Las Vegas a breeze.”

Davison said, “Las Vegas marks the sixth state with a direct flight into SLO CAL, once again increasing our connectivity throughout the nation... Las Vegas residents can escape high-speed lifestyles, blistering summers and cold, windy winters with a renewing trip to our coastal wine country community. The new flight service also directly connects our community to the entertainment capital of the world, providing new travel opportunities for our residents.”

The first flight to Las Vegas was set to take off at about 12:25 p.m. Thursday.

The airport says the 80-minute flights are designed for weekend travel, being offered Thursdays, Fridays, Sundays and Mondays.

Travelers can now fly direct from San Luis Obispo to Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Denver, Dallas, Phoenix, San Francisco, and Seattle.
