The Atascadero Police have issued a press release regarding the fatal traffic collision.
In that report, they said that the single male occupant in the vehicle died as a result of the incident.
Both Atascadero's Police and Fire and Emergency Services responded to the traffic collision on Highway 41, near Old Morro Rd. at around 8:30 p.m.
Upon arrival, crews found a single vehicle on fire surrounded by vegetation. A fire had sparked in the brush, but fire personnel were quick to extinguish the flames.
The identification of the driver is pending further investigation.
At this time, it is not known if drugs or alcohol were factors in this incident.
Highway 41 was closed in both directions from 8:34 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. to allow for the Police Dept. to investigate the scene.

The Atascadero Police Department reports that as of 9 p.m. Saturday, Highway 41 is closed in both directions at Three Bridges due to a vehicle crash.
The crash reportedly involved a fire, but police say that has since been knocked down.
The highway is expected to be closed for a few hours and drivers are being asked to avoid the area.
