The Atascadero City Fire Department responded to reports of a structure fire Thursday afternoon.
Firefighters say the fire broke out at about 12:20 p.m. On the 6800 block of Serra Street.
A total of 21 firefighters responded to the incident.
The first firefighters on scene say heavy fire was seen at the front door and smoke could be seen coming from the attic and roof.
Firefighters were able to get inside the home and stop the fire from spreading into the rest of the house.
Firefighters say an elderly woman was home at the time and was evacuated by family members along with help from Atascadero police officers.
According to a press release, it took approximately 25 minutes to knock down the fire.
The elderly woman was taken to a local hospital as a precaution, she did not suffer any injuries from the fire.
Investigators say the fire started in a bedroom, and was caused when a faulty outlet sparked.
The fire cause approximately $20,000 worth of damage.
