Fire crews were responding to a vegetation fire reported in the hills above Carpinteria High School Wednesday afternoon.
Shortly before 2 p.m., the Santa Barbara County Fire Department said while no flames were visible, there was smoke coming from the half-acre burn area across from power lines in U.S. Forest Service jurisdiction.
A helicopter was making water drops as ground crews worked to access the area.
No other information was immediately available.
