Downtown Santa Barbara ambassadors are being credited for saving a stabbing victim’s life Tuesday afternoon.
Santa Barbara police responded to the area of De La Guerra and State Street at about 12:30 p.m. to reports of two men fighting.
Police say the verbal confrontation turned physical along the sidewalk and one of the men stabbed the other before running off northbound on State Street.
Downtown ambassadors were the first people on scene and applied pressure to the man’s wounds, according to police, who add that the ambassadors are largely responsible for saving the victim’s life. He’s expected to survive.
Police say it appears the two men knew each other and the incident was not gang related.
Investigators believe they know who the suspect is and say they are following up on leads in an effort to take him into custody.
Police add that they don’t believe there is any threat to the general public.
