A group of inmates from the United States Penitentiary (USP) in Lompoc were involved in a fight Sunday morning officials say.
In a press release, prison authorities say the fight broke out around 9 a.m. in a housing unit.
The report goes on to say staff members immediately responded and secured the area.
According to officials, one inmate sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. However, they say no staff members were injured and there is no threat to the public at this time.
The report says the incident "was immediately contained and the institution remains secure."
Officials say the Federal Bureau of Investigation was notified and the institution was placed on a limited operation status until further notice.
USP Lompoc is a medium security facility that currently houses more than 1,200 male offenders in Lompoc.
