A woman was arrested for DUI following a crash that closed a portion of Highway 46 for hours in the Shandon area Sunday morning.
At around 6 a.m., the California Highway Patrol says Zoe Kirkpatrick, 29, of Echo Park was heading westbound on the highway just west of the Shandon Rest Area when she stopped her vehicle partially on the shoulder of the road and partially in the slow lane with the headlights off.
Soon after, the driver of a semi-truck and trailer hauling 30,000 pounds of produce noticed the stopped vehicle and swerved to avoid a collision.
The right front of the semi hit the left side of the Honda, officers say, before the semi and trailer rolled on their sides and blocked both westbound lanes.
The driver of the semi, identified as Thomas Browning, 68, of Oakdale, was airlifted to the hospital with what CHP described as major injuries.
Kirkpatrick reportedly suffered minor injuries and was booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail on suspicion of DUI with bail set at $100,000.
Jail logs did not show her in custody as of Monday morning.
CHP says a dog inside Kirkpatrick’s vehicle was uninjured and turned over to animal control.
