Dia de los Muertos will kick off in Downtown San Luis Obispo Friday night

Dia de los Muertos in San Luis Obispo will kick off with a procession Friday at 6 p.m. at Humankind Fair Trade, which is located at 982 Monterey St.

Attendees will be able to participate in the procession and are encouraged to wear costumes. The procession will go through Downtown San Luis Obispo and end at the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art. A community altar will be built at the museum for people to place photos of their loved ones and other items.

The procession will be led by Wilshire Hospice musicians and will include traditional music of the Latinx heritage.

The celebration will continue through Saturday, Nov. 2 at Mission Plaza starting at 10 a.m. and is set to include decorated altars, traditional dances, mariachi music, a Death Café and arts and crafts.
