Caltrans is planning to make major renovations to the Shandon Roadside Rest Area, which will shut down the electric vehicle charging stations until June 2021.

Officials say the Wastewater System Improvement Project starts Jan. 4.

Crews are upgrading the existing advanced treatment wastewater disposal system and installing a cloud-based resource monitoring system.

This project is expected to cost $1.1 million dollars.

Caltrans also plans to preform major wastewater improvements at the Gaviota Roadside Rest Area off Highway 101 in Santa Barbara County and the Camp Roberts Rest Area in Monterey County.
