UPDATE (3:28 p.m.)- The California Highway Patrol confirmed that a 15-year-old boy died following a crash off Highway 1 south of Harmony.

The crash was reported at approximately 11:15 p.m. on Friday.

CHP officials said a car struck a guardrail, went up an embankment, and then hit a large rock, causing it to flip over.

There were four passengers in the car. One 15-year-old boy from Morro Bay was pronounced dead at the scene. A 17-year-old girl from Cambria sustained major injuries, and a 19-year-old woman from Paso Robles sustained moderate injuries. The driver was an 18-year-old man from Cambria who had minor injuries.

CHP says it does not believe alcohol was a contributing factor to the crash and the cause is under investigation.

ORIGINAL STORY: A crash that shut down Highway 1 south of Harmony overnight resulted in at least one fatality, according to the California Highway Patrol.

It happened at about 11:15 p.m. just north of Sea West Drive.

According to the CHP's Traffic Incident Information Page, authorities received a report that someone was ejected from the vehicle when it rolled over. No other cars were involved.

Both lanes of traffic were blocked and the highway was closed overnight.

The roadway was cleared just after 4 a.m., according to CHP.
