Santa Maria drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians may experience some delays due to a construction project in the city.

The project is happening along South Broadway in between Cook Street and Stowell Road.

It's already about 75 percent complete and is expected to be completed by early June.

The city is reconstructing sidewalks, curbs, and gutters, as well as working with property owners to plant replacement trees that are a less invasive species.

City officials say approximately 20 trees had to be removed because they had damaged the concrete.

The $221,500 project is funded by Measure A, the local half-cent sales tax.
