California Highway Patrol assigned its first permanent motor officer to the San Luis Obispo area since the early 1960's.
Department officials posted the news on Facebook Tuesday introducing officer Alex Banks, who transferred from the Santa Barbara area.
The post explains officer Banks was selected to attend CHP's rigorous motorcycle officer training at its academy in West Sacramento.
Another CHP officer is joining the academy later in the year.
Officials say they'll introduce that officer once they complete their motorcycle officer training.
