UPDATE (11:36 a.m.) - Authorities say a man is facing charges including DUI and eluding authorities after he reportedly kidnapped his adult daughter and led officers on a pursuit that ended in Buellton.
The California Highway Patrol says it started after a woman called 911 from Oceano before 9 a.m. Tuesday and told dispatchers her father had kidnapped her and was driving an RV with herself and her mother inside.
Officers say the woman has a restraining order against her father.
Law enforcement located the RV in Santa Maria and initiated a traffic stop, but say the driver refused to pull over.
A pursuit then began, heading southbound on Highway 101 before the driver pulled off on the side of the road at the 76 gas station on Avenue of the Flags in Buellton.
Officers say that’s when the woman who reported being kidnapped was able to get out of the RV and run to law enforcement for help.
Officers reportedly tried unsuccessfully for over an hour to make contact with the man and get him to surrender.
Around 11 a.m., they stormed the RV and set off three flash bangs to disorient the man as they entered and arrested him.
The woman inside, the victim’s mother, was unharmed, authorities say.
The woman who reported being kidnapped said her father was in a “meth-induced psychosis.”
No injuries were reported and the suspect, whose name was not immediately released, was arrested.
According to CHP, he faces charges of driving under the influence, eluding police and violating a restraining order.
