The California Highway Patrol has identified the 83-year-old man killed in a crash on Highway 1 in San Luis Obispo last week as Frederico R. Porter.
The crash happened Friday at around 6:39 p.m. in the southbound lanes of Highway 1 north of Stenner Creek Road.
Officers say Porter, of San Luis Obispo, was driving in an unknown lane at an unknown speed when he veered off the road and struck a large tree.
The impact pushed his Toyota Tercel back onto the road where it was struck on the passenger side by on oncoming truck.
The Tercel was then pushed down into a draining ditch. Porter was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other driver was not injured.
